TRIPTHYC PIECE PROGRESS WORK

Here is some progress work for a triptych series that I've been putting together. My fascination with the Friday the 13th film series has been a major influencer in this particular piece.

Some assets may be difficult to identify if your not overly familiar with the franchise, but every element holds a slight nod to an event that has taken place in these films. For instance, the left composition shows Rick's eye pop from Part 3. The use of purple and teal is indicative of the NES game color scheme. The perspective room is meant to replicate the cabin interiors. The center platforms dissent into fog. From top to bottom. Life (yellow circles) to death (swampy green clouds). The Centipede machine repeated translates to the amount of sequels where the battle of good vs. evil is the prime motif.

Women as dominant forces has always been a running theme in my work. Because the heroine is always the survivor, the intent is to further emphasize women as the central focus. There are also little nods to being isolated in nature. It's also worth mentioning that these compositions glorify drug use to some extent. Something that the Friday the 13th series has done so well. I'm not advocating for drug use. Heavens no. I'm just reflecting the messages that these films communicate. With that said, there is a lot of room to explore the relationship between human desires and the consequences thereof.

I chose to make the piece slant from the right because I wanted a jarring downward spiral. I may reverse this from left to right as that seems to be the best communication method. I mean, that how we are taught to read things. You start on a high and end at a bottom.

There are a few things I need to address yet in completing this piece. Some of the messaging that I want to draw upon yet are things like psychic powers (Part 7: The New Blood), identity bending (Part 5: A New Beginning), the rejection of authority (Part 6: Jason Lives), and KISS pinball machines (Part 2). I would also like to explore such topics as rehabilitation (Part 1) and vanity (Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan)

I have some other ideas rolling around in my head and will touch upon those as I get closer to completion.
